Art education shapes students’ minds by stimulating creativity, critical reasoning, and emotional intelligence. It not only helps to increase creativity but also helps the students to foster problem-solving skills. Art helps us to see and appreciate the beauty in the world around us. Whether it’s a painting, music, or a dance, it can make you see the world more beautifully. Including art in school prepares students to acquire a risk-free approach while learning new things. It gives them the liberty to express themselves freely through their art. Recent studies have shown how arts influence the academic success of the student. The National Endowment for the Arts(NEA) stated that students who are involved in the arts score better and are more likely to graduate from high school.

1. Boost Creativity

When kids are engaged in art activity it allows them to unleash their creativity. There are many ways through which they can bring their imaginative ideas to life some of them are through drawing, painting, and crafting. This not only increases their creativity but also enhances their ability to think more creatively. Studies have shown that engaging in artistic activities activates the release of dopamine ( a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward). Dopamine helps in increasing the feeling of amusement and creativity in children. According to a survey conducted by the National Endowment for the Arts, 63% of children who participate in art activities are likely to be more creative.

2.  Learning Fun Stuff

Through art, children get hands-on experience which contributes to their overall learning and helps increase their thinking ability. Art is connected with the academic performance. Children who get into art at an early age tend to perform better in maths, literature, and other subjects than the other students. When children are involved with various colors, shapes, and different materials they are involved in active learning without even realizing it. Arts are just like a game where they discover new concepts, such as understanding different shapes and colours and using them to form their reality.

3. Expressing Feelings

Art is a great way to express emotions, especially for kids who may find it challenging to express their feelings in the right way.  By drawing a smiley face or a sad face people can understand what they are trying to say it acts as a visual meditator to convey one’s emotion. Often therapists suggest art therapy to express emotions that are difficult to convey. Children use their creativity to convey and process their emotions. A study published in the Journal of Applied School Psychology found that art therapy helps improve emotional aspects and social behaviour in elementary school children.

4.  Skill Building

When kids are engaged in art activities various basic motor skills such as cutting paper and squeezing glue bottles are required. Origami is one of the ways that improves hand-eye coordination. These activities serve as a workout for their fingers, helping the kids to prepare for more difficult activities in the future. The American Academy of Pediatrics states that activities that involve holding crayons and using scissors in art projects contribute to the development of basic motor skills in children.

5.  Problem-Solving Fun

Kids who love doing arts are more likely to be involved in puzzle-solving activities. When they decide which colour or shape to choose, they are actively solving problems for their creation. This process improves the cognitive abilities and prepares them for solving various problems in their life. Art involves decision-making and problem-solving skills as children make their own choices regarding colours, shapes, and arrangement. Research published in the journal “Frontiers in Psychology” suggests that people who are actively involved in art positively correlate with improved problem-solving abilities.

6.  Pride in Accomplishment

Art involves decision-making and lots of creativity its all about putting your thoughts into reality accomplishing an art project provides a sense of achievement and increases self-confidence in children. When a kid says look what I made it boosts their confidence and dignity in their abilities.

7. Learning about the world

Art helps us understand the true beauty of the world whether it’s in the form of painting, music, or dance. Art introduces the kid to a world of colours, shapes, and patterns it’s like a mini adventure where kids can explore and understand their surroundings.

8. Happy Memories

When grownups also engage with children it creates cherished memories. All the laughter, joy, heartful conversion, and excitement to make something together create an everlasting memory. These happy moments contribute to overall positive experiences for childhood it also helps in building stronger connections and a love for learning. Parents should always try to connect with their children and art is a great way to connect with them  The National Art Education Association states that art education increases cultural awareness and promotes a global perception among students.
